Traditions are a wonderful thing.

At 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, Roman Tony Triplitt purchased his tickets to the 2012 Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship, making him the first ticket buyer for each game since the championship arrived in Rome in 2008.

“Tony is an important part of the NAIA tradition in Rome,” said Host Committee Co-Chair Bob Berry. “Tony was the first person to ask us how to get tickets when we were awarded the game. He’s always ready to be first in line.”

This year’s championship match will be played Thursday, Dec. 13, at Barron Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. The price for game tickets is $25.

“We want to encourage fan participation in this year’s event,” said Berry. “Rome, Ga., will return to the national stage for this game and for next year’s game, and we encourage the community to support the championship.”

Game tickets are available for purchase from The Forum by calling (706) 291-5281, (800) 858-7601, or visiting www.forumevents.org. Also available are tickets for other championship events, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Champions of Character Luncheon, which will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 12 noon at the Forum, and the NAIA Banquet of Champions, which will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Forum. Tickets for the luncheon are $25 each or $250 for a sponsor’s table of 10; banquet tickets are $30 for an individual ticket or $300 for a sponsor’s table of 10.

I highly encourage Romans not participate in this event. Garland failed to secure this deal long term and convinced our local politicians to sink a lot of unnecessary money into the "Not-So-Historic" Barron Stadium. Garland coming off of being suspended basically for not playing well with others and treating Barron like it was his own personal playground needs to be sent the message. it's time for him to fly. When he goes will someone please cut the dang Leland's down at the end of the field. Some traditions should never die!
