Shorter University head men’s basketball coach Chad Warner announced the hiring of Mario Moore as a graduate assistant.

Moore is beginning his college coaching career at Shorter after finishing a stellar playing career for Kevin Stallings at Vanderbilt University from 2002 to 2006.

Upon graduating from Vanderbilt, Moore played professionally in Slovenia for two years before returning home to Nashville, Tenn., as a prep coach at Hunters Lane High School and AAU coach as well as a middle school teacher’s aid at Sunset Middle School.

“I am excited to begin my college coaching career at Shorter University and I look forward to working with Coach Warner and the staff,” Moore said. “I also look forward to trying to help each student-athlete reach his maximum potential.

“Basketball has always been a major part of my life and I am blessed to have the opportunity to begin this new chapter in my life.”

Moore will play a pivotal role for the Hawks according to Warner.

“I am so grateful and excited to have Mario join our staff,” said Warner. “He brings great enthusiasm to the job and will be counted on to mentor and teach our team the game of basketball and life.”

Moore also brings with him a wealth of playing experience that will be helpful on the floor.

“Obviously, Mario’s success on the floor and overseas will be counted on by us as we recruit young men to play at Shorter,” Warner added. “I think Mario has a very bright future as a coach. Shorter is blessed to have him”.

As a player at Vanderbilt, Moore became a member of the 1,000-point club while also making enough triples to land in the top 10 for 3-pointers made in school history.

Mario was a second team All-SEC performer in 2006 and a part of Vanderbilt’s NCAA Sweet 16 team in 2003-04. Moore still holds the record for single-game makes from beyond the arc with nine.
