Mrs. Kristin Smith Sauchak
The groom is the son of Jane Sauchak of Canton, Mich. and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sauchak of Woodhaven, Mich. He is the grandson of the late Lester and Theolene Saeman and the late Walter and Joyce Sauchak.
James A. Doyle of Washington, D.C. performed the double-ring ceremony. Ivory organza-draped windows flanked the altar, which was surrounded by candlelight. A program of the couple’s favorite love songs preceded the service including “I Was Made to Love Her,” “That’s How Strong My Love Is” and “Lovin’ in My Baby’s Eyes.” “The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack” played during the processional.
The couple’s grandparents were honored with a reading of the family names. The bride’s father said a prayer of blessing for the couple, and the groom’s mother read the poem “Love Song.” The couple read personally written vows, and exited the ceremony to “This Will Be Our Year.”
The mother of the bride wore a three-quarter length sleeve dress in black matte jersey satin highlighted by the fitted waistline and short pleated taffeta skirt in plum with an embellished hem. The mother of the groom wore a full length dress in black satin featuring a silver and black crystal-accented jacket. The mothers carried posies of anemones, ranunculus and camellia foliage.
Meredith Johnson of Malden, Mass., sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Julia Luce of Nashville, Tenn., Carlyn Reichel of Washington, D.C., and Leigh Sauchak of Los Angeles, Calif., sister of the groom. They wore full length gowns of their choosing in neutral tones of gray and rose. They carried hand-tied bouquets of ivory dahlias, dutch roses, umbrella fern and scented geranium tied with ivory satin ribbon.
The bride, escorted by her father, chose an ivory two-piece gown featuring a ruched silk georgette bodice with a portrait
neckline. Silk ties cascaded down the back over a row of silk covered buttons. The dress featured a high-waisted, A-line ball skirt of raw dupioni silk. Accessories included an ivory blusher veil, a bracelet and pearl earrings belonging to her mother and a silver and pearl sunburst brooch belonging to the bride’s late maternal grandmother. The bride carried a bouquet of anemones, privet, chocolate cosmos, ranunculus and garden roses accented with camellia leaf and tied with ivory satin ribbon. Pinned to the bouquet was an antique handkerchief with blue embroidery which belonged to her maternal great-grandmother. The bride carried a sixpence in her shoe that her mother carried in her wedding. The bride selected a knee length ivory reception dress with contrasting black lace accents.
Alberto Abril of Los Angeles, Calif., was the best man. Groomsmen were Bill Martin of Wilmington, Del., Jonathan McGlone of Plymouth, Mich. and Craig McKey of Oakland, Calif. Ushers were Art Alamo and Jacob Weisman, both of Los Angeles, Calif.
Following the wedding, a cocktail hour and reception were held at Carondelet House. After dinner refreshments included the bride’s three-tier cake featuring coconut, vanilla and lemon cake layers. The entire cake was iced in vanilla buttercream icing and decorated with fresh flowers. The groom’s cake was a carrot cake iced with cream cheese frosting.
The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Taix French Restaurant in Los Angeles.
Other pre-nuptial parties included a miscellaneous shower at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church hosted by Pam Agan, Candace Carlton, Joy Chupp, Renee Gilreath, Reesa Milton, Diane Swafford, Lori Turner, and Monnie Wright and a wedding weekend brunch hosted by Art Alamo and Colin Dunn. A bachelorette weekend was held in Nashville, hosted by Meredith Johnson and Julia Luce.
The couple will honeymoon in Paris and will reside in San Francisco, Calif., in December.
