Author: Dr. Mark K. Huckaby

Book: “Say It Daddy: 30 Ways to Speak Love into your Daughter’s Heart”

About the Author: Mark Huckaby is the spiritual growth pastor at Life Church in Rome. He is also a partner with A1 Quality Home Inspection and will begin as an adjunct professor at Shorter University in February 2013. He lives in Rome with his wife Krista. They have two daughters, Taylor and Tia.

About the book: In “Say It Daddy,” Huckaby uses personal experiences and anecdotes to encourage fathers to nurture their daughters through affirmations that will build her character, confidence and her sense of self. With chapters such as “You’re a Gift,” “You’re Different,” “You’re One of a Kind,” and “You’re Strong,” Huckaby explains how he learned (and continues to learn) the ins and outs of being a dad to girls and saying the right things to them.

“It all comes from my own experience and convictions,” he said. “I wanted to help dads. This is written as a practitioner. I’ve done it. I’ve succeeded at some things, failed at some things. The proof is in the two young ladies I’m blessed to call my daughters.”

From “Say It Daddy”: Discover what is different about your daughter and feed that part of her. Is it music? Get her an instrument. Does she sing? Buy her a microphone. Provide lessons for her. What else? Believe me, there’s nothing like her.

Encourage the “differents” as well as the “difference” in her. Boys can’t do what she does (regardless what the culture says.) She’s different.

“Tell her there’s nothing or no one like her. There’s not, really. I’ll repeat this statement time and time again, “You must believe this stuff.” If you don’t you have no right to say it. A kind word without heart is flattery and fluff. Your girl might not believe what you say about her, but she should believe that YOU believe what you say about her.”

Where to get the book: “Say It Daddy,” is available locally at Heaven’s Attic in the Local Authors section. It is also available online at amazon.com.
