GHC Basketball: Lady Chargers upset No. 8 team at tourney

The No. 21-ranked Georgia Highlands Lady Chargers haven’t looked like a first year program this season, and that continued Saturday. The Lady Chargers took down No. 8-ranked Walters State 55-53 in the second day of the Georgia Perimeter College Thanksgiving Tournament.

GHC trailed 32-23 at the half, but the Lady Chargers picked up the defense intensity in the second half with Shakierya McClendon having five steals and 15 points to cap off the come from behind win and move to 7-0.

Manon Cherubini also finished with 15 points, Gabrielle Kendall had nine, and Shan’Taja Latimore scored eight points.

The Lady Chargers return home on Monday as they host East Mississippi Commmunity College at 5 p.m., with the GHC’s men’s game to follow at 7 p.m.
