When former Rome High standout Mauri Wells, who now plays at Armstrong Atlantic State, was recently named to the Peach Belt Conference’s preseason all-conference team, the honor proved that Greater Rome continues to be a pipeline for producing athletes who make an impact on the college level.

In the coming weeks and months, the Rome News-Tribune Sports staff will be calling attention to the area’s former stars by charting their progress and accomplishments for their respective college teams.

Currently, the RN-T is compiling a master list of athletes from the area who are now playing collegiately, and we’ve contacted coaches and athletic directors to help us assemble the list.

And, in order to ensure that the list is thorough and accurate, we are also asking our readers to aid us with this project by submitting the names of former Greater Rome stars who are now playing on the college level.

To submit information, please send us an email. with the player’s name, college or university and the sport they play.

The information can be sent to either David Dawson at DDawson@RN-T.com or Jonathan Blaylock at JBlaylock@RN-T.com.
