Shorter Volleyball: Lady Hawks split on first day of tourney

For the first time since the beginning of the season, the Lady Hawks were scheduled to play twice in one day with the start of the NCCAA National Championship Tournament. Shorter lost the opener to McMurry 3-1, but came back in the second match of the day to defeat Bethel 3-1.

The first match saw the second seeded Lady Hawks get outhit .201 to .156.

Anna Graham and Jasmine Crook each tallied 12 kills, with Graham hitting a team high .423.

Jordan Corder had 36 assists and 14 digs to top the stats in each category.

Tanequa Whitman recorded 13 digs, with Loren Olive adding 10 more.

Shorter (25-6) was able to recover from the early loss to defeat Bethel 3-1. The Lady Hawks won the match 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15.

Shorter outhit Bethel .265 to .108 with match highs coming in the third (.371) and fourth (.387) sets to close out the first day of competition.

Crook had a match high 18 kills, while hitting .552 to set a season high. She also added five blocks.

Shorter has two more games set for today. Malone will be the opponent in the 10 a.m. match. Shorter will play again at 4 p.m. against Trinity Christian.

The top two teams from pool play will advance to competition on Saturday.
