The tree is the mission of Elizabeth Lawler, who led the drive to put up the first tree last year.
It wasn’t until Petsense opened in October 2010 that they found a place for the Christmas tree — when then-store manager Scott Leiter agreed the women could place the tree in the store.
Current manager Lisa Robinson is continuing the tradition.
Once again the tree contains names of dogs and cats from Floyd County Animal Control, Posey Pet Shelter Promoters in Cedartown and the Animal Rescue Foundation of Rome-Floyd County. But there hasn’t been a huge outpouring of support just yet.
“It’s been up since (Nov. 14),” Robinson said. “We have not had quite as much donated this year. What I am hearing from people is they are coming back in the next week or two.”
When a card is chosen from the tree, donors have the option of choosing what type of animal they want to sponsor.
Donors can also designate where they want the donation to go.
