That’s the Lindale Star, of course, now relocated to a new site on Eden Mountain from its old place of honor between the twin chimney stacks of the old Lindale Manufacturing plant (Pepperell), the huge textile mill that continues to slowly come down brick-by-brick. The star, rescued through the efforts of the Lindale Star Committee led by Jim Mehaffey, can be seen as always from the unincorporated village of Lindale and nearby points from dusk to dawn from now until about the second week in January. That, of course, is roughly the time when the Wise Men, guided by a star, paid homage to the newborn Savior.
That’s another good cause and preservation effort to consider aiding in this season (Lindale Star Committee, P.O. Box 573, Lindale, GA 30147). Indeed, Mehaffey hopes to find some local organization to “adopt” the star permanently and help lead the effort to get it placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Which is where it belongs.
