A Cedartown man was arrested after police reported that he’d taken items from the East Rome Walmart and then resisted attempts to be taken into custody, reports stated.

According to Rome police reports, 26-year-old Rex Matthew Peppers of 128 W. John Hand Road was jailed on felony and misdemeanor charges Monday afternoon after police alleged he tried to take a Georgia sticker and a “Mom” key chain and leave the store.

Reports then stated officers had to use some force to take Peppers into custody, and once searched was found with a pill bottle containing methamphetamine, alprazolam and clonazepam. Police reported that the drugs were found in Peppers’ front inside pocket, along with a 6-inch knife in his boot.

Peppers was arrested and remains in jail on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, alprazolam and clonazepam, along with possession of weapons to commit a crime and carrying a concealed weapon. Police also booked Peppers on misdemeanor charges for pills not in their original container and shoplifting.

Police reported no further incident with Peppers after he was taken into custody and taken to the jail.
