Harold “Bud” and Carol Ritchey of Rome recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Opryland Resort Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 29, hosted by their children and grandchildren.

They were married on Dec. 29, 1962 at the Siberton Baptist Church in Attall, Ala.

Bud grew up in the Dykes Creek community and graduated from Johnson High School in 1959. he retired from the General Service Administration in 1999. He was a maintenance engineer at the Rome Federal Building.

Mrs. Ritchey is the former Carol Ann Lancaster from Attalla, Ala. She graduated from Etowah County High School in 1961. She worked in retail management for a number of years before becoming employed with the Rome City Schools system. She retired in 1999 with 22 years of service.

The couple have two children, Cindy Stephens of Powder Springs and Michael Ritchey of Rome.

They have four grandchildren.

The Ritcheys are active members of Rome Baptist Temple.

Carol enjoys traveling, outlet mall shopping and curlingup with a good book and a cup of Hawaiian-brewed coffee.

Bud enjoys traveling and helping others in need. He also enjoys hunting with his son and grandson.

The couple enjoys spending time with their children and grandchildren and they say the secret of a successful marriage is putting God first in their lives and allowing him to be the head of their home.

They say their love has grown stronger through the years and vow to be together forever.
