MONROE, Ga. (AP) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of an inmate at the Walton County Jail.

GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jesse Maddox says 39-year-old Robert Jason Helton of Winder was pronounced dead at Clearview Regional Hospital in Monroe on Dec. 28.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Helton was being held at the facility for Barrow County. He was accused of committing a probation violation.

Sheriff's Deputy Lora Stamey says Helton began to breathe irregularly, and he was transported to the hospital.
