SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Savannah city officials have received a state grant worth more than $1 million to help pay for dozens of road projects this year.

Keith Golden, commissioner of the state Department of Transportation, presented a check for the money to the Savannah City Council on Thursday.

Officials say the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant, when matched by a 30-percent share from the city, will fund 80 road paving projects throughout Savannah in 2013.

Mayor Edna Jackson praised the DOT for working with the city and promised the road money would be put to good use.
