Free blood work and a host of other health checks will be available at Harbin Clinic’s second annual Wellness Expo on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The expo begins at 8 a.m. at the clinic’s main building, 1825 Martha Berry Blvd., and in addition to the blood work medical personnel will offer EKGs, blood pressure and pulse checks. The free blood work and EKG will be determined by age, medical history and gender.

Participants will also be able to visit health education booths that will be set up throughout the clinic. There will be information about several topics including diabetes dietary management, sleep apnea, health and fitness, pharmacy questions and urology.

The Harbin Clinic Multicultural Affairs Committee is hosting the event.

“We as Harbin physicians are grateful to be able to practice medicine in a place like Floyd County,” says Dr. Himanshu Patel, chairman of the Harbin Clinic Multicultural Committee. “We are proud to offer the Harbin Clinic Multicultural Affairs Committee Wellness Expo and to give back to the community that gives us so much.”

Those who received free blood work will be asked to return on Feb. 9 to discuss the results with a Harbin Clinic provider.

“We are very excited that we are able to offer this opportunity to the massive number of people in our community who are uninsured, or do not see a physician on a regular basis,” said Dr. Alfonso Diaz, medical director at Harbin Clinic. “Last year we had a tremendous turnout and this year we are looking forward to a huge increase in the number of people that come out and take advantage of the free benefits of the Wellness Expo.”

Participants getting lab work must not eat or drink after midnight. Snacks will be provided for participants after blood work is done. Flu shots will also be available as quantity allows.
