Cartersville man jailed in child abuse case

A Cartersville man was in jail Friday, following his arrest on charges linked to a child abuse case in Bartow County, according to a press release from the Cartersville Police Department.

According to the release:

A six-week-old infant was taken to the Carters­ville Medical Center emergency room on Wednesday with a knot on her head. Further examination showed that the infant also had broken ribs, a fractured skull, a broken left shinbone and a broken left thighbone.

Officers interviewed several suspects before arresting Dustin Michael Lewis, 18, of Cartersville, and charging him with cruelty to children and aggravated battery.

Lewis remained in the Bartow County Jail on Friday night.

The child has been placed in state custody.

The case is still under investigation.
