“Hairspray” is a fun, lively musical filled with 1960s dance music and rhythm and blues,” said RLT’s Allison Cox. “It is set amidst the Civil Rights Movement and promotes a message of racial equality and understanding. The community is invited to join in the excitement of live theater and support Rome Little Theatre, a non-profit organization that relies on the support of its members, patrons, and volunteers.”
Directed by Karen Bowling and produced by Becky Magruder, the show features some of Rome’s most talented and enthusiastic young singers and dancers. The role of Tracy Turnblad will be played by Lillian Shaw, and Jonathan Chisolm will play Tracy’s mother, Edna. The show also features Don Schlitz as Wilbur Turnblad, Russell Evans as Link Larkin, Beth McCain as Motormouth Maybelle, and Madison Smith as Amber Von Tussle.
The show runs Friday through Feb. 17. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students, seniors, and groups. Tickets are available by visiting the Rome Little Theatre box office in the historic DeSoto Theatre at 530 Broad St. in Rome or by calling the box office at 706.295.7171.
