The body of a man who held a 5-year-old boy hostage for nearly a week before dying in a shootout with the FBI has finally been removed from his underground bunker in Alabama.

FBI spokesman Jason Pack says the body was removed Wednesday night, after agents determined there were no other explosives on the property besides those that were discovered in a PVC pipe leading into the bunker and inside the bunker itself.

An autopsy was planned for Thursday. Dale County Coroner Woodrow Hilboldt has said it will be performed at the state forensic laboratory in Montgomery.

FBI agent Paul Bresson said Wednesday now that additional explosives have been ruled out, evidence-collection and review teams have begun sifting through the crime scene.
