Face to Face: Kevin Payne, Floyd County Tax Commissioner
Floyd County Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne will conduct a public forum today to discuss the changes related to the new motor vehicle tax law.

Visit Face to Face on RN-T.com to see a video interview with Payne about the issue.

The forum will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the courtroom on the second floor of the Floyd County Courthouse on Fifth Avenue, the same building that houses the tag office.

The new law will call for new-car buyers to pay a new ad valorem tax that is 6.5 percent of the cost of the vehicle, instead of sales tax. Once that tax is paid, the purchaser will be exempt from annual ad valorem tax for the life of the vehicle.

Some used-car buyers will be able to opt into the new system or continue paying ad valorem taxes each year.

For more information, call Payne at 706-291-5148 or email him at paynek@floydcountyga.org.
