Garland will graduate with an Honors College Preparatory Seal in May. He has earned numerous awards during his high school career. His honors include: University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, selection to participate in High School Leadership Rome for 2010-11, a Governor’s Honors participant in Social Studies in 2012, an AP Scholar in 2012, National Society of Colonial State competitor in literary competition, he was a Senior Superlative voted Most Likely to Succeed, president of National Honor Society, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, vice-president of the Student body, president of the Academic Decathlon team, and editor of the Key club. Garland also played varsity baseball and participated in the Executive Internship program. He won the Dames Essay contest in 2012 that included a scholarship and a trip to Washington D.C.
Bennett has been accepted at Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Georgia (Honors), University of Texas (Business Honors Program) and University of Virginia. He plans to pursue a degree in business and later receive an MBA. His plans also include a degree in the seminary and entering the mission field.
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award, sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; the Georgia Department of Education and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, is presented to a high school senior with the school’s highest SAT score and ranking in the top ten percent or top ten members of the school’s senior class. Each STAR student selects a STAR Teacher in the recognition program.
