The Shorter women’s lacrosse team picked up their second home conference win by defeating Emmanuel, 18-6, from Ben Brady Field.

Mia Wiggins led a charge on offense that scored a dozen goals in the first half.

Wiggins took six shots on goal, and the ball found the back of the net on all six attempts — she scored four times in the opening half.

Shorter (4-2, 2-0 NWLL) got on the scoreboard quickly with Rachel Skinner scoring inside of the opening minute. Emmanuel responded to tie the game after Skinner’s goal, and after Wiggins’ first goal to have a 2-2 tie with 21:19 remaining to play.

The Lady Hawks added three goals in the next 1:20 to take the lead for good, with Skinner, Wiggins, and Shelby Beverly scoring. The Lady Hawks went to halftime ahead, 12-4.

Wiggins got her first goal of the second half 39 seconds into play on an assist from Amber Hicks. Hicks added two goals in the second half.

Skinner leads the team in goals (16) and assists (16); helped by a three goal two assist performance.

Taylor Moody got the start in goal and made four saves in the first half. With the lead secure, Nicole Kube was inserted between the halves and added three saves.

Shorter took advantage of Emmanuel (0-4, 0-2 NWLL) miscues, winning the ground balls 54-36, while also taking 17 draw controls.

The Lady Hawks were also 12-for-13 on clear attempts.

The Lady Hawks will head to Clearwater, Fla. to take on Ursinus on March 5, before returning to Ben Brady Field on March 10 for a conference match up versus Pikeville.
