In Atlanta, Senate Republicans continue to choose candor when it comes to washing their hands of the creation of a Georgia Public Broadcasting job for Chip Rogers – and the Senate’s decision to reject a Democratic effort to slice $150,000 from GPB’s budget.

The state Democratic party has sent over a recording of a call that state Sen. Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, made to a constituent, explaining the reasoning – after first apologizing for a harsh response from an intern answering his mail.

Asked if Rogers was “worthy” of such a position, Gooch replied “no,” and continued:

“We budget for the entire state government. We don’t tell the governor who to hire and who to fire. That’s his job. Totally. We don’t have any responsibility in hiring or firing employees. I could cut $150,000 out of that budget if I had enough votes to go with me.
