ATLANTA — Retired legislators could buy special tags for their cars under a bill passed by the Senate Thursday.

Senate Bill 121, sponsored by Sen. Ronald Ramsey, D-Decatur, passed 34-12.

“Many of you have had the opportunity to serve 10, 20, 30 years, and many in the community know you,” he told his colleagues before the vote.

“This gives you the opportunity to be honored by your community.”

Sen. John Albers, R-Roswell, said he liked that plate better than the one he is allowed to have on his car now as a serving legislator.

Now the measure goes to the House, and if passed there, to the governor who would sign it into law.
