STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Georgia Southern basketball coach Charlton "C.Y." Young has been fired after four seasons.

Athletic director Tom Kleinlein made the announcement Tuesday. The Eagles were 14-19 overall and 7-11 in Southern conference play this season.

Young was 43-84 in four seasons at Georgia Southern, including a 26-46 record in conference games.

Young, a former three-time all-conference player at Georgia Southern, took over the program in 2009 when the Eagles faced two years of NCAA probation.

Kleinlein says a change in leadership is needed even though Young "has done a tremendous job" with a program "that had some trouble when he arrived." Kleinlein says Young took the Eagles to "respectability."
