Floyd County police discovered a pipe bomb while arresting a man for a failure to appear charge stemming from a misdemeanor shoplifting arrest, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

Jeremiah James Dean, 21, of 68 Todd St., was arrested at 227 Gaines Road early Wednesday morning.

Dean told police the pipe bomb was his.

In addition to the failure to appear charge, Dean is charged with felony possession of an explosive device.

He remained in the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
