A man arrested early Wednesday is accused of doing a U-turn on U.S. 411, striking another car and then fleeing, Rome police said.

Timothy H. Wright, 29, of 321 Arapaho Drive in Acworth, is charged with hit and run and failure to maintain a lane, records state.

According to reports, a white truck headed east about 7:35 a.m. on U.S. 411 at Grace Drive did a U-turn, struck another vehicle stopped on the side of the road and then kept going.

An officer spotted a vehicle moments later that matched the white truck’s description.

He stopped the truck and spoke with its driver, later identified as Wright, records state.

Wright told police he’d spent the night cleaning floors at a Fort Payne, Ala., Cracker Barrel and had no idea he’d hit someone. A passenger in Wright’s vehicle had been sleeping and had no information, police said.

Authorities say Wright was then arrested. He slept on the way to the Floyd County Jail and remained incarcerated Wednesday night pending $1,274 in bond.
