Hundreds of students across Floyd County celebrated Read Across America Day on Monday.

Cave Spring Elementary was even surprised with a visit from state Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox. Cox read to classes for several hours in honor of Read Across America Day.

From Seussville to Who-ville to Fox in Socks, students dressed as characters from Dr. Seuss’ books, snuggled up in pajamas and ate green eggs and ham.

Sponsored by the National Education Association, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. and more than 50 national partnering organizations, Read Across America is a national event. March 3 is also Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

See the March 18 edition of Young Romans for more highlights from Read Across America Day.

Cox also visited the Georgia School for the Deaf on Monday to congratulate the girls basketball team for winning the Mason-Dixon Tournament in Mississippi in January
