An Aragon man remained at the Floyd County Jail Saturday morning after being arrested in a DUI traffic stop, reports stated.

According to reports from the Floyd County Jail:

Travis Ray Campbell, 31, of 51 Old Wax Road in Aragon, was jailed on felony charges of burglary, criminal damage to property, terroristic threats and acts along with a misdemeanor of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Campbell was alleged to have been stopped in a silver 1999 Dodge truck around 8 p.m. after 911 received a call that he was driving around the projects and talking to kids. After running him through field sobriety tests found he was intoxicated.

Police reported that once in custody and on the way to jail, Campbell threatened officers and beat on the cage in the window separating the front and back seats.

After officers stopped to handcuff him behind his back, he was transported to the jail without further incident.

Campbell was also alleged to have entered an apartment on Maple Street earlier Friday evening and destroyed several items. Police reported the cost of the damage done was estimated at $500.

Mipco, Voter I checked the links you posted and from what I read you have reports from 2003, 2005, and 2007. Hell even one of the articles said they were using reports based on incidents from 2007. I have live here in Rome for the last 20 years and other than more restaurants, drugstores and businesses shutting down, I have to say I don't really see Rome as the big criminal center of Georgia y'all say it is. Also Voter what makes you think I'm an ex-cop.The last part of your comment sounds like your not to happy to have a black man as president. Tell me I'm wrong, but maybe your just a bitter old man/women who thinks the world owes them everthing. If you think this town is so bad, Florida has some nice condos waiting on you right now. So take your Polygrip and walker and leave the great state of Georgia and this wonderful town.

I have a lot of experience with addiction, specifically alcohol. I am in recovery. This man has had "15" second chances and he still doesn't get it. He has an infant son and he still doesn't get it. He has a loving wife and he still doesn't get it. Part of his problem is that he is surrounded by enablers. I sincerely hope that he get's it this time and turns his life around. He has a young son that desperately needs positive role model in his life...especially from his biological father. Travis is a good guy that is very sick. Anyone who enables this man moving forward should be held accountable for his actions. May God bless him and his family (baby son).

It saddens me to see the judgemental comments posted below. Travis is a good person who would give you the shirt off his back and go out of his way to help you if it was within his power. His addiction has caused him and his family much suffering and pain. NO one would choose a life of addiction and instead of being judgemental of this man you should be thankful it didn't happen to you. If only we could predict who has the alcholic gene and warn those people before it destroys everything they love. I pray for him and his family and know that he will beat this addiction. As for the other charges - innocent until proven guilty. The truth will come out. when did pulling over to ask teenagers/kids where someone lived become a crime?????? Who hasn't said words in anger that they regret????

Hey CapitolG check out this link Voter posted if you haven't already done so

http://www.idcide.com/citydata/ga/rome.htm

When you do also check out Atlanta, Cartersville, and Chattanooga on the same site. The crime rate for these cities are the same and this is were voter gets their reports on crime for the city of Rome. Had a bad day, you'll feel better when you check out the link, pretty funny.

Voter some link you posted. I checked it out, you got to be joking. Have you looked at any other towns. If you click on Atlanta or Cartersville, the paragragh about crime is the same word for word with the exception of the name of the town. Hell if you clink on Chattanooga it says the same thing just changes the state and city. Please try to get your info from a more relible sorce next time befor you run your mouth about crime rates.

First off Voter I would like to know where you get the supposed information that tells you that Rome has a much higher crime rate then the rest of Georgia. Please post the link I would like to see this for myself. Second Georgiamama14 yes I have dealt with people who have addictions, myself personally for example, still whether the kids were older or not I will not condone the mans behavior. Yes I don’t know if he is a sex offender, but still to be drunk enough to threaten police and to be riding around in the projects makes you wonder just exactly what was he up to. Remember someone called 911 because he was riding around and talking to kids so I am not the only one who thought maybe he was up to know good and was thinking of the kids safety.

Vick: Do I think his actions were acceptable? No Sure do not but to portray him as a sexual predator on a child....NO sure far from that...it says he was talking to kids not messing with them...more than likely it was older children it was in the projects so he was probably asking older kids where to get what he wanted not that i agree with that either but still dont portray someone as something they deff are not!!! youre right he needs to set a better example...its obvious you havent ever delt with someone with an addiction before its a little easier said than done...

I'm sorry y'all. I guess in Aragon you like tohave drunk older men talk to your kids at night. Must be fun!! I suppose you let your kids drink too. Well most parents would not be happy some adult was drunk around their kids. If like you say he does have kids, well he should set a better example for them. You got to be kidding if you think this of action is exceptable.

It says he was talking to kids! You can say a lot of things but don't come to a conclusion that he is a child predator from one sentence. He is a very decent human being with an addiction problem. He has a good family and hopefully this will allow him to get the help he needs.

I guess you want this kind of person talking to your kids, me personal I don't tolerate it. I was raised to be wary of strangers and I will teach my kids the same. Why don't you check out the sex offender site for Georgia and see just how many live within 5 miles of your house and then tell me wouldn't like to kick his a$#.

Did you not read the article. He was stopped after 911 recieved a call that he was driving around the projects talking to kids.Do you really want this kind of person on the streets. There is no telling what his intentions were. Also before he was on his way to jail, he was charged with burglary, criminal damage to property, terroristic threats and acts. If you check out the law, any crime above $500 is a feloney. But that is beside the point this man was drunk riding around at night talking to kids. I say he needs a good ole' fashioned country a$# whoopin.
