Local band Broad and Third will take the stage at Bridgepoint Plaza on Friday for the inaugural First Friday concert of the season.

Kristi Kent, the public information officer for the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority, said highlights of the first day of the barbecue competition at Ridge Ferry will include the beginning of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Dunk-a-Cop fundraiser that begins at 12:30 p.m.
“We’re ready to go, rain or shine,” Kent said.
One of the highlights for many visitors Friday will be the dessert contest starting at 5:30 p.m., where any visitor can submit their dessert to be judged. The fee for the contest is $10, and the winner will take home $100. Kansas City Barbecue Society judges will determine the winner of the contest.
Kent said that any kind of dessert can be brought, from cakes to pies to homemade brownies.
